WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE
As I lay here at 2 a.m. on this Thursday night, I am in a state of reflection. A reflection about what is to come in my life. You see, approximately ten months ago, I decided to sell my house, sell my car and travel the country in my RV in pursuit of a fuller life. A life that focuses less on possessions and money. A life that finds solace in connection with nature. Fulfillment through reflection, silence, discovery, generosity, kindness and creativity. (I have many more adjectives than that, but those are just a few.)
Some think I'm crazy, and in a way, they might be on to something. To pursue a lifestyle like this, there has to be some element of 'crazy'. Here are six important reasons why I am pursuing this crazy lifestyle (some vague, some specific):
- Share my life and inspire others in a positive way
In a world that has become so convoluted, I have found it to be my personal goal to find happiness in the small daily things. I've also taken great strides to live this lifestyle and I hope it can serve an inspiration to others.
- Visit all 59 National Parks in the United States (Alaska and Hawaii included)
My 2003 Dodge Ram (Pleasureway) class B camper van has less than 50,000 miles on it and I am leaving for Denver, CO from Chicago, IL in about a week. This traveling home will hopefully allow me to visit all of the national parks in the lower 48 states.
- Live a life that isn't focused on financial gain
A life that is chained to a desk or any type of job because of the money is not a life that I would like to pursue. I realize that because of some life decisions, I've put myself in a spot where I am able to be a gypsy. Most people my age (30) don't have the same opportunities as me given they've made different choices earlier in their lives. It's a blessing and a curse. Regardless, money has never been a huge part of my life and I will continue to live this way.
- Document my journeys through film and photography
I find an immense amount of satisfaction when I am creating content or art. Sometimes there is an intersection between content and art, and when that happens, something truly special emerges. I always have my camera on my hip, just waiting for the perfect moment to take a photograph or capture a moment on video. I started the YouTube channel above called Parking with Foalhaus (Foalhaus is my social media handle) and that is my own personal therapy. I don't care if I get 5 subscribers or 500,000. I'm just happy creating stories.
- Find daily happiness and purpose through my activities and interactions with others
I think God finds reasons for placing in each others' lives and I can't wait to begin meeting more people who I relate with and also with those who I might differ from on some level. I like interacting with diverse groups of people. I have no set standard on who I will be friends with (as long as that person isn't an ass).
- Travel extensively
Before I leave this realm, I'd like to be able to say I understood people and cultures. There's no other way to do this than to see them with my own two eyes and my own two feet!
