Why your website matters even when customers find you on Google

Many people find a local business through a search, a map listing or a friend’s recommendation. Then, before they call, book or drive over, they check your website. It’s where they confirm that you do what they need, that you’re open, that you look trustworthy and how to reach you.

When the site can’t answer those questions quickly on a phone, people don’t complain. They go back to the search results and pick the next name. You never see the customer you lost, which is why an outdated site costs more than it seems to.

A good small-business website does a few jobs very well. It explains what you offer in plain words, shows proof that you’re good at it, and puts the next step — calling, booking, ordering or asking for a quote — one tap away.

From free preview to finished site

It begins with the free audit and redesign preview. We look at your current site the way a customer would, on a phone, and check its speed, what Google shows for your business and how many steps it takes to call or book. Then we design a concept of your new homepage and record a short video walking you through it, usually within a week. If you like where it’s going, you get a fixed-price quote.

From there we plan the pages around the questions your customers actually ask. A contractor needs service-area pages and a quote form. A salon needs a service menu tied to booking. A restaurant needs a menu that loads as real text, not a PDF. We write the copy from a conversation with you, so it sounds like your business rather than a template.

We design for phones first, then build on the platform that fits: Framer or Webflow for most marketing sites, WordPress when you need its plugins or already run on it, Shopify when selling products is the main job, and custom code when nothing off the shelf will do. AI helps us with the groundwork, such as sorting the questions your customers search for and drafting first versions of page copy, and a person rewrites and checks every page before you see it.

The approach comes from product design work for bp, Facebook, Hyatt and Deep6 AI: find out what people are trying to do, then remove whatever gets in their way. On a small-business site, that usually means fewer pages, shorter paths and clearer words.

Small problems that send customers elsewhere

Small-business sites tend to share the same handful of problems. None of them is hard to fix, but each one quietly costs you customers:

  • Menus and price lists posted as PDFs that are hard to read on a phone
  • Phone numbers that can’t be tapped to call, or that hide in the footer
  • Contact forms that send to an old inbox nobody checks
  • Oversized photos that make pages slow on mobile data
  • Hours or addresses that disagree between your site and Google
  • Headlines about quality and service instead of what you do and where
  • Redesigns that break old page addresses and lose search traffic
  • Sites that only the original developer knows how to edit

Before launch we test every form, button and old link. When we replace an existing site, we set up redirects — automatic forwarding from old page addresses to new ones — so customers and Google don’t hit dead ends.

Your site as the hub for search, listings and ads

Everything else you do online points back to your website. Your Google Business Profile — the listing that appears in Maps and search with your hours and reviews — links to it. Ads land on it. Your Instagram bio, email signature and printed menus send people there. When all of those agree on your name, address, phone number and hours, customers trust you more, and so does Google.

That’s why every site we build includes the search basics (page titles, descriptions, image descriptions and a sitemap submitted to Google Search Console) and analytics that count calls, form sends and bookings, not just visits. If you want to go further, our SEO and local search work, which improves where you appear in Google and Maps, builds on that foundation, and campaigns and ads can send paid visitors to pages designed to turn them into customers.

After launch, the site is yours: domain, content, accounts and all. You can edit it yourself, and we show you how. If you’d rather hand off hosting, backups, updates and small changes, a care plan covers that month to month. The easiest first step is a free redesign preview of your new homepage.

Who it's for

Restaurants, cafés and bars

Menus that load as real text on a phone, current hours, and one-tap links to reserve, order or get directions. Specials and seasonal menus you can swap out yourself.

Salons, spas and studios

A clear service menu with prices and durations, pages for your team, and booking buttons linked to the system you already use.

Contractors and home services

Service and service-area pages, project photos, license and insurance details, and a quote form that asks the questions you need answered before you call back.

Clinics, boutiques and professional offices

Clinics, law and accounting firms, and shops that depend on foot traffic need to look credible at a glance. We make your services, people, location and next step obvious.

What's included

Everything below is part of the work — not an upsell waiting at the end.

A page plan built around customers

Before any design, we map which pages you need and what each one should get a visitor to do — call, book, order or ask for a quote. The plan comes from what your customers search for and the questions they ask you most.

Copy written for every page

We interview you, then write the headlines, service descriptions, about page and button wording in plain language. You review and edit everything, and nothing goes live until you approve it.

Custom design, starting with phones

Your site is designed around your brand, photos and customers rather than a stock template. We lay out every page for a phone screen first, then adapt it for tablets and desktops, with readable text, strong contrast and buttons big enough to tap.

Calls, bookings and forms that work

Tap-to-call phone numbers, map links, contact and quote forms that arrive in the inbox you actually check, and your booking or ordering tool connected. We test each one on real phones before launch.

Fast pages on mobile data

We size and compress images, keep unnecessary scripts off the page and test load times on a phone connection. Slow pages lose visitors, and Google also considers page experience when it ranks sites.

Search basics set up correctly

Page titles and descriptions (the text people see in Google results), image descriptions, and structured data that tells Google your address and hours. We submit a sitemap, the list of your pages, through Google Search Console, Google's free tool for site owners. If you're replacing an old site, we add redirects so existing links keep working.

Analytics that count real leads

We set up Google Analytics in your account and track the actions that matter — calls tapped, forms sent, booking buttons clicked. You can see which pages lead to calls and bookings, not just how many people visited.

Training so you can edit

At handover we walk you through changing text, photos, hours and menu items on your platform, and record it so you can rewatch it later. If you'd rather not edit at all, every care plan comes with monthly change hours, from one to ten depending on the plan.

How it works

2-4 weeks for most sites. You'll always know what's happening this week and what's next.

  1. 01Days 1-3

    Free audit

We review your current site — or your listings and social pages if you don't have one — on a phone, the way a customer would. We share what's working, what's costing you customers and what we'd change first.

  2. 02Within a week

    Redesign preview

We design a concept of your new homepage and record a short video walking you through it. There's no obligation; if you like it, you get a fixed-price quote and a dated plan.

  3. 03Build week 1

    Plan and write

We agree on the sitemap, gather your logo, photos and business details, and interview you for the copy. You review the page plan and draft copy before we design the rest of the site.

  4. 04Build weeks 1-3

    Design and build

We design the remaining pages from the approved homepage direction and build them on your platform with forms, booking links, analytics and search setup in place. You click through a working preview link and send changes.

  5. 05Build weeks 2-4

    Launch and handover

We test every page, form and link on phones and desktops, connect your domain, set up redirects and update the website link on your Google Business Profile (your listing in Maps and search). Then we show you how to edit, confirm every account is in your name and hand over your files.

How pricing works

Every website is quoted as a fixed price for an agreed set of pages and features after your free audit, so you know the full number before work starts instead of paying by the hour. The price depends mostly on how many distinct page layouts you need, how much we write from scratch, and what the site has to connect to — booking systems, online ordering, detailed quote forms or content moved over from an old site. A five-page site for a café with one booking link sits at the simple end; a multi-location clinic with dozens of service pages and several forms takes more. Platform subscriptions such as Framer, Webflow or Shopify are billed by those companies directly to you, in your name; for WordPress and custom-coded sites, hosting is either an account in your name or included in a care plan.

Questions about websites

Something else? Ask us directly.

Do you write the words, or do I?

We do. After a conversation about your business, your customers and what sets you apart, we draft every page and you edit it until it sounds like you. If you already have copy you like, we keep it and tighten it where it helps.

How do you choose which platform to build on?

We pick based on who will edit the site and what it has to do. Framer and Webflow suit most marketing sites because they're fast and easy to edit; WordPress makes sense if you rely on its plugins (add-on features) or already use it; Shopify fits when selling products is the main job. Custom code is for the rare site that none of these can handle, and we explain the choice in your quote.

Will a redesign hurt my Google ranking?

It can if it's done carelessly, usually because old page addresses stop working. We map every old page to its new address with redirects, keep the titles and content that already bring in searches, and resubmit your sitemap to Google Search Console. We can't promise rankings, but we make sure the move doesn't throw away what you've already earned.

Can the site take bookings, orders or quote requests?

Yes. We connect the booking, reservation or ordering tool you already use — such as Square, Calendly or OpenTable — or help you choose one, and build quote forms that ask the right questions. If you want to sell a full product catalog online, our online stores service is the better fit.

What do I need to have ready?

Your logo, any photos you like, and time for a kickoff conversation. We'll also need access to your domain registrar (the company where your web address is registered) and your current site, if you have one. If your photos aren't strong, we can work with what you have, use licensed stock where it fits, or plan a shoot through our brand and content service.

Is a care plan required after launch?

No. The site is yours, and you can run it yourself with a hosting plan in your name. Care plans are for owners who would rather hand off hosting, backups, security updates and small changes. They run month to month or yearly, and you can cancel anytime.
